Our Medical Weight Loss Plan Works!

Achieve success through our Weight Loss Plan at Trident Primary Care and Wellness. We offer a meticulously supervised program designed to support individuals in achieving their weight loss objectives. Our weight management therapies integrate a blend of the following components:

Semaglutide w/ B-12 (GLP-1 w/ B-12)

What You Need to Know

Semaglutide (also known by Ozempic and Wegovy) is a medication that belongs to a class of drugs known as GLP-1 receptor agonists. Semaglutide is also FDA approved for weight loss and is administered once a week by injection.

Semaglutide mimics the natural occurring hormones that the body makes which tells the brain I'm full. It promotes weight loss in people by reducing appetite, slowing down the emptying of the stomach, and increasing feelings of fullness.

Semaglutide has been found to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, including reducing the risk of heart attacks, strokes, and other cardiovascular events. Semaglutide can also reduce the risk of kidney disease in people with type 2 diabetes.

Health Benefits of Semaglutide w/ B-12 (GLP-1 w/ B-12)

1. Improved glycemic control: Semaglutide is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist used to treat type 2 diabetes. By mimicking the action of GLP-1, it helps regulate blood sugar levels. The addition of B12 may further support metabolic processes, potentially enhancing glycemic control.

2. Potential cardiovascular benefits: Studies have suggested that Semaglutide may have cardiovascular benefits, reducing the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events in people with type 2 diabetes. B12 supplementation could support heart health indirectly by aiding in the metabolism of homocysteine, which is associated with cardiovascular risk when elevated.

3. Neurological support: Vitamin B12 plays a crucial role in neurological function, including the maintenance of nerve cells’ myelin sheaths. Combining Semaglutide with B12 may help support nerve health and reduce the risk of neuropathy, a common complication of diabetes.

4. Energy metabolism: B12 is essential for energy production within cells. By optimizing B12 levels, Semaglutide users may experience improved energy levels and reduced fatigue, which can be beneficial for overall well-being, especially in individuals managing diabetes.

5. Potential for reduced homocysteine levels: Elevated levels of homocysteine are associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. B12, along with folate, helps metabolize homocysteine. Combining Semaglutide with B12 supplementation may help lower homocysteine levels, potentially reducing cardiovascular risk in individuals with diabetes.

Semaglutide w/ B-12 + reduced calorie meal plan + increased physical activity = Weight Loss

While the medication starts to work immediately, it may be a few weeks before results are seen. Injections should be taken on the same day each week. Rotate injection sites to minimize skin irritation. Sites for injections include fatty areas like abdomen, thighs, and upper arms.

Common side effects: gas, nausea, vomiting, Constipation, diarrhea, abdominal pain, bloated feeling, and belching. These side effects usually occur when the patient first gets their injection or when they are being titrated upward. The side effects generally decrease over time.

To help decrease the GI side effects, patients should: avoid high carbohydrate foods, greasy foods and sugary foods and drinks, cut down on food portion sizes, eat more slowly, chew more thoroughly, and avoid laying down immediately after eating.

Hydration is of the utmost importance: Because Semaglutide decreases appetite, some patients may forget to eat or drink. This can lead to some element of dehydration, which can lead to or exacerbate nausea, constipation, fatigue, malaise, dizziness, or even more dangerous issues such as acute kidney injury.  To best avoid this, it is suggested to drink at least 64 ounces of water each day or more based on the patient's activity level.

Tips for Patients

  • Keep a journal to track your progress. Record meals, noting what you ate and how it made you feel. Record water intake.

  • Record where you received your injection and how you feel after each shot. Which site works better and/or causes the least side effects?

  • Record positive changes in weight, food changes, and mental changes.

  • Record physical activities and which, if any, lead to better weight loss.

  • Keep high protein bars or shakes handy.

  • Drink plenty of water

Who should avoid Semaglutide?

  • Patients with history of Medullary thyroid cancer or strong family history of Medullary thyroid cancer.

  • Patients with a history of kidney disease. Semaglutide could worsen the kidneys causing kidney failure.

  • Patients with a history of pancreatic disease. Although rare, Semaglutide can cause pancreatitis.
